Farming biogas in action

There is a wide range of biogas facilities already operating on farms across Canada. Ontario boasts more than 30 anaerobic digestors. British Columbia, Alberta and Quebec are also home to successful agricultural biogas operations. In this podcast series, three dairy farmers share their experience and vital lessons learned that will benefit anyone exploring biogas as an option for their farm.

Episode 1
Harcolm Farms

Rob McKinlay of Harcolm Farms, North America’s first small, factory-built, farm-scale anaerobic digester. The 20 kW mini digester system is fed only on-farm material from the 72-head dairy farm.

Episode 2
Fepro Farms

Paul Klaesi of Fepro Farms, a pioneer of agricultural biogas in Ontario, currently operates 500 kW biogas facility running on 15,000 tonnes of dairy manure, corn silage and off-farm material per year.

Episode 3
Clovermead Farm

Korb Whale of Clovermead Farms, recipient of a national sustainability award, manages a 150-head dairy operation and 250 kW biogas facility. Clovermead uses waste produced on the farm as well as off-farm feedstock to feed two anaerobic digesters.
